The CHIWORK Steering Committee (SC) invites expressions of interest to serve as General Chair (GC) for the CHIWORK conferences in 2027 and 2028. CHIWORK is an annual event dedicated to advancing research and practice at the intersection of human-computer interaction and the future of work. The conference brings together researchers and practitioners to explore innovative solutions and emerging challenges in this dynamic field.
We plan to select two General Chairs to collaboratively lead each conference. The General Chairs are responsible for overseeing all aspects of conference planning and execution.
CHIWORK General Chair Responsibilities
The General Chairs’ responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assemble and manage an Organizing Committee of volunteers, including Program Chairs, Publicity Chairs, Accessibility Chairs, and others as needed.
- Ensure adherence to CHIWORK’s motivations, goals, values, and approaches.
- Manage the conference budget in collaboration with the Steering Committee and sponsors.
- Oversee venue selection and contract negotiations for physical, virtual, or hybrid events.
- Lead regular planning meetings to ensure smooth coordination across committees.
- Get approval for ACM SIG in-cooperation status, and for publication in the ACM DL.
- Represent CHIWORK in communications with attendees, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate conference planning and execution activities with the Steering Committee.
Eligibility and Qualifications
We seek candidates who have:
- Demonstrated experience in organizing academic conferences or large-scale events.
- A clear understanding of the CHIWORK community and its goals and values, and a commitment to promote these goals and values.
- The capacity to dedicate significant time to the role for 12-18 months leading up to the conference.
Application Process
Each GC candidate should submit a separate statement of interest via email. There is no requirement to propose a co-GC. If two individuals would like to serve as co-GCs, they can submit a single statement of interest with two summaries of experience, one for each individual; in this case one individual can send the expression of interest email and cc the other individual. Expressions of interest should include the following:
- Availability and Preference to Serve as GC in 2027 and 2028: GCs will serve for one year (2027 or 2028). We would like to know which of the two years you are available to serve. If you are available in both years, we would like to know which one you would prefer.
- Proposed Venue: Suggest a location for the symposium, considering factors such as accessibility, regional representation, suitability for the event’s needs, the time and location of other related events, as well as the scheduling of other large, unrelated events in your proposed location.
- Summary of Relevant Experience: Highlight your experience with conference organization, leadership roles, or other relevant activities.
- Commitment to Welcoming Environment: Describe your approach to organizing a conference where everyone is valued and given the support they need to thrive.
- Commitment to Sustainability: Describe your approach to promoting sustainable practices at the conference.
- Proposed Co-Chairs (Optional): Identify any individuals you would like to work with as co-chairs and describe their roles (such as co-general chair, program chair).
- Vision for the Upcoming Conference (Optional): Outline any specific goals or initiatives you would like to pursue at CHIWORK 2027 or 2028.
We encourage interested individuals to reach out with questions to the whole Steering Committee at [email protected], or to any SC member (see https://chiwork.org/sc/members/).
For full consideration, please submit your expression of interest via email to [email protected] by February 10, 2026.
Selection Process
The CHIWORK Steering Committee will review all expressions of interest based on the following criteria:
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational capabilities.
- Alignment with CHIWORK’s goals and values.
The Steering Committee may follow up with candidates for additional information or interviews before making a final selection.
We look forward to receiving your expressions of interest and to working together to shape the future of CHIWORK!
