Hybrid Experience

This information is provided for remote attendees regarding what they can and cannot expect

Synchronous & Asynchronous interaction with CHIWORK

The conference will take a hybrid form, meaning that if you are unable to travel to Amsterdam, you will be able to attend the conference remotely and experience synchronous and asynchronous interaction, depending on the track. We are working to ensure that conference participants can experience a sense of togetherness regardless of how they choose to take part. Our main platform of interaction is a Slack environment with dedicated channels for each part of the conference in which content, like videos submitted by the authors, will be shared.

Concretely, the hybrid experience for remote attendees of CHIWORK encompasses:

  • Synchronous virtual attendance of the Paper Track sessions, Conversations, and the Keynote, including the possibility of sending in questions in Slack for the presenters. Please note that these synchronous sessions will not be recorded.
  • Asynchronous interaction with Demos and Late Breaking Work through Slack conversations in the dedicated channels.
  • Virtual attendance to a workshop: only if the workshop organizer chooses to host the workshop in a hybrid format. Workshops are either in-person only or hybrid, not online-only.

Our Principles

Togetherness

We want both the in-person and remote attendees to be aware of each other, instead of clustering into silos. We want every participant to see not just the presenter, but also other attendees. Furthermore, we will create dedicated channels for different conference events so that all participants can interact on a uniform platform.

Persistence

We encourage online discussions about the conference events. Even after a paper, conversation, or talk has ended, those who are tuning in later or those who want to continue an interesting thread, can keep discussing it asynchronously.

Balance

We understand that the experience of in-person and remote will be different because of several constraints. Having said that, we strive to ensure that both kinds of attendees receive a valuable form of participating.
