CHIWORK Motivating Questions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The community of the Symposium on Human-Computer Interaction for Work (CHIWORK) is motivated by the following broad questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. How can human-computer interaction (HCI) help individuals, teams, and organizations use digital technology to support work and promote well-being?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. What practical technologies are needed to advance HCI for work?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    CHIWORK Goals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    CHIWORK aims to provide answers to the above broad questions, thus generating new knowledge. This aim is supported by the following specific goals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Scientific Research:<\/strong> CHIWORK will promote scientific research in HCI and related fields to improve the future of work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Impact on Practice:<\/strong> CHIWORK will foster the creation and implementation of practical technology solutions that support individuals, teams, and organizations in the evolving work landscape.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Policy Resource:<\/strong> CHIWORK will serve as a resource for policymakers by providing evidence-based insights and recommendations to inform policy decisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. Community Building<\/strong>: CHIWORK will build and maintain a community of experts who can support, and continuously improve, its scientific, practice-related, and policy-related work.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Our work is guided by the following core values:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        2. Expanding Community:<\/strong> The symposium aims to increase the number of contributors working to tackle CHIWORK\u2019s core questions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. Participatory Design and Co-Creation.<\/strong> We emphasize that workers should have a voice in the design and deployment of workplace technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        4. Knowledge Sharing and Open Science.<\/strong> We encourage open science practices by making findings and resources publicly available (e.g., code repositories, toolkits).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          CHIWORK Approaches to Building a Community<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          1. Community-Based Government:<\/strong> CHIWORK is led by the CHIWORK Steering Committee. The SC is building a community-wide governance structure, including town-hall meetings, and open volunteering opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          2. Transparency:<\/strong> SC and conference decisions are made in a transparent fashion and reported with appropriate detail to the community.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          3. Financial Stability:<\/strong> CHIWORK seeks to create structures for long-term stability in finances, while maintaining self-governance for the community.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
